I give up. I have tried to figure this out, but just cannot. I am using "The Complete Surprise" book. I am looking at pg. 33, Row 79. K 33, inc, K 86, inc, K 33. Now, this gives me 156 stitches. (33 + 2 + 86 + 2 + 33 = 156. Row 80 starts the flap. I am not to knit the first 34 or last 34 of the row and use the 90 middle stitches for the flap, but 34 + 90 + 34 = 158. These numbers do not add up no matter how many times I add them. Can you tell I am frustrated? I need help.
I am working on my first BSJ also and on row 79 you should have 158 stitches. You knit 33, and when you increase you( M1, k1,M1) so you have 3 stitches not 2 then K86, increase (M1,k1,M1) K33 =158.
I hope I explained it right. When I M1 I used the backwards thumb method.
