The yarn is CYCA #2 (sport/baby) BabySilk from Du Store Alpakka (80% baby alpaca, 20% silk; 145 yd/133m/50 g), Natural White #301 and Lilac #321 for one of the patterns (seen on Amazon).

You can look for a substitute on yarnsub.com https://yarnsub.com/yarns/du_store_alpakka/babysilk

When you are looking for a similar yarn, copy the paste the content of the yarn you need [80% baby alpaca, 20% silk; 145 yd/133m/50 g] and most of the time you will find other yarns that have that content. From there, you can figure the amount and weight.

Ravelry also shows most yarns - https://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/du-store-alpakka-babysilk Remember that if you are looking in Ravelry stashes, not for sale is default and you can message a person and see if they want to sell.

DROPs may be a close substitute. https://www.garnstudio.com/yarn.php?show=drops-baby-alpaca-silk&cid=17

You might try looking on Ravelry for the yarn and color before ordering online. You will see that the pictures of the color are usually very different. It might be worthwhile to message one of them and ask them to describe the color. Better yet, you can find lots of yarn there that is more than reasonable to buy from a member.

Before ordering online, especially if it is a new-to-you source, look for the shipping and return policy. The yarn is probably available from more than one source. Pick the best one.

One of the projects has this comment indicating that the brim folds up against crown:

"Finished hat then decided it was too long so ripped it back to about 5” from rim and restarted shaping at that point."

I don't believe that worked out to be the finished project and definitely is not what the pattern indicated. The band isn't folded up, it would stand out away from the head if it was intended. If the picked up stitches were picked up on the inside of the band, and then knit up, it would not be folded.

My opinion is that the total finished length should be approx. 8 in.

I would look for a ribbed beanie and if you have a measurement for the cabled portion, subtract that from the total length and see if it is about the same measurement. Your pattern does not have a gauge but it does appear that the decreases are done too quickly, leaving a slight point.

I don't believe the brim is intended to be folded up, as the wrong side of the cables would then show.

If you are working the cable band and it measures 4 in. wide, the pick up and knit 2 in. of ribbing, stop and put the two ends together and see if you think that is about 2 in. short of the depth you want. The 2 in. would be the decreased crown, for a total depth of 8 in. Base your depth measurement on from the leading edge of the brim.

Look through the comments and see if anyone mentions the crown length. Looks OK to me.

One source indicates the measurement would be - measure across the top of the head from the bottom of the earlobe to the bottom of the other ear and divide that measurement by 2 for the total depth of the hat. Ex. mine is 16 in. and the depth would be 8" total. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9f-EmOWpKcE

K1,p1, k1, p1, k1, p1, k1 all into next st, then pass 6th,5th,4th,3rd,2nd and 1st sts. over 7th st.

The MK is used a lot in UK patterns. In my opinion, it is not as pretty as ones that are knit and purled (turning to the back, then front). Watch the youtube or do a search with the line at the top of my post, or just the word knit bobble.

This pattern has the same bobble mentioned. If you enlarge the picture of the collar (first one) you can see what that bobble looks like.

UPDATE:
This person MAY have used a different bobble. Hard to tell.

If it is a large number of stitches, I use both ends (or two balls). If it is a number, say less than 50 or 75, I don't mind casting on and if it isn't right, doing it again. I think my second cast on is more uniform in most cases because I'm more relaxed the second time. For me, knitting is not a race.

It looks like two ribbed squares with a large cowl collar. The collar would be a wide tube.

How do you tell when something Trump says is urgent? He has single-handedly redefined 'urgent'. He creates chaos every single day so that he stays in the 'news' 24/7. If the conversation was with Putin, it is about getting him re-elected and what he can give in return. If the conversation was with Saudi, it probably has to do with assisting them in a war with Iran. Congress be damned. He should make ALL decisions because he IS the stable genius!

We can only hope that the whistleblower will go directly to Congress, as they can do and get this out where it can be dealed with. More information for an impeachment??

I agree that he has done despicable things that will affect us for decades, but with 35% supporters and the Electoral College still in effect, I don't think Democrats can afford for him to gain any additional support.

There was an article that said with the Electoral College, he could lose the popular vote by 5 Million! votes and still win. I'm not a strategist, but trust that the people who are, are looking at those factors that help him win the electoral votes in certain states that voted for him before. Remember that Clinton won the popular vote by almost 3 million and polls consistently showed her ahead.

The statute of limitations runs until 2022 so IF he should win, it would be important that Democrats have the House and the Senate, and oust McConnell. I think the fact that 13 GOP reps have chosen to retire or not run is telling. It could not be because they don't like the job, but more that they don't like the boss.

Support Amy McGrath and do all you can do to help in getting out the vote. It is a shame that we cannot get more KPers to read this section. I feel those that don't want to talk politics are ignoring the crisis. Knitting will not make that better, or more tolerable.

I think Speaker Pelosi is dragging her feet waiting for the clock to run out.

I still believe that Pelosi is doing the right thing. And, Nadler also. If Pelosi calls for an impeachment vote and makes it official, Trump will whine about it at every rally from now until the General Election. His line will be that he is being persecuted and harassed by the 'socialist' Democrats and it is a continuation of their (Democrats) anger over having lost the 2016 election. He would get the sympathy vote and no one would be listening to the reasons he should be impeached. It would be - the Democrats are stopping me from building the wall. They want open borders. The trafficking, the drugs, the gangs will all be coming in. The Democrats want to take your guns.

On the other hand, Nadler is trying to keep the focus on the charges in the Mueller report and showing the continued obstruction/cover up that is going on by Trump. Nadler can show the subpoenas being ignored at Trump's direction which continues the obstruction. They can also keep the focus on investigating while NYSD works at getting Trump's tax returns and develop possible criminal charges.

Both of them know that the Senate under McConnell will never actually proceed with impeachment proceedings, (the trial HAS to be initiated by the Senate) and nothing happens except that it makes the Democrats look vindictive and Trump look like a victim.

That's my opinion. What is yours?? For or against?

Here is the latest in Mitch McConnell's Twitter account. Talk about hypocrisy!

It has been 232 years since the signing of the greatest document in our nation’s history. It will always be a symbol of American values of individual liberty, freedom, and self-governance. #ConstitutionDay pic.twitter.com/8f5Vb8g…

Our nation must continue investing in the readiness and modernization of our military. Russia and China aren’t slowing down to wait for us. It would be a grave mistake if Democrats block the Senate from moving forward with defense funding legislation this week.

Some Democrats are also threatening to “pack” the Supreme Court if they don’t get the rulings they want. These attacks on judicial independence are not normal politics. My Republican colleagues and I will fight to preserve a fair and independent judiciary.

-------------------------------------------------------------------
After Trump decided, without Congressional approval, to take money from the military, the GOP now wants to have more put in back into the military.

The federal courts and the SCOTUS have already been packed with conservative Republicans - "As of September 1, 2019, President Donald Trump (R) had made 146 Article III judicial appointments—2 supreme court justices, 43 appellate court judges, 99 district court judges, and 2 judges on the Court of International Trade."

And with respect to the Constitution, McConnell has allowed this POTUS to make a mockery of it.

All in all, this really isn't funny. Vote BLUE in 2020, even in the Democrats run someone you don't like.

You could read through Ravelry comments on decreases. https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/aspyn/people?view=cards&search=decreases

The decreases seem to be planned to fit in with the previous row and as you continue, it may look different. I would put in a lifeline, follow the pattern, and then decide.

You might consider what method you use. It may be just that the tension is less controlled on circulars. The size of the stitch is determined by the needle size and does not change when it gets to the cable. If you are a thrower, then you may not be getting as good a grip on the working yarn each time. The longer needle tips should help. Would Portuguese style provide better tension for you.

You will probably have to experiment to find out what exactly causes your stitches to be different. There are also knitting gloves that may help your hand problem. https://www.allfreeknitting.com/Knitting-Tutorials/Knitting-Tension-Problems
