Vibes & Scribes in Cork has a whole yarn shop in the basement-some wonderful yarn. Also, if you have time you can take the little train between Cork & Cobh (our ship docked there) and get off at the Little Island stop. You can then walk to the Hedgehog Fibers factory where they have amazing hand-dyed yarn in different weights and different prices...they will also ship for you for about $7 and hold shipment until you are on the way home. They were wonderful and the yarn is scrumptious!

I also had the same problem with the added joy of a neuroma on the other foot . My Dr. suggested I wear only Birkenstocks and Vionics, and sandals as much of the time as possible. These have made my pain so much more bearable. I also use a "stretching boot" which he gave me, with a soft ice pack from CVS for an hour a day. He also told me to NEVER walk barefoot (even to the bathroom from bed!) Good luck!

Hedgehog Fibers sells to the public-8&9 Eastgate Way, Little Island, Cork. There's a little train -only one stop from Cork to Little Island.

The pattern is called "Vela Latina" and it’s a free pattern on Ravelry. I’m not sure how to insert a link here on this forum.
It’s a very easy pattern to follow. I used it for both shawls although on the second one - brown, Green, & Light Gray, I actually did a little creative additions using the pattern - adding more rows in a color, etc. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much!!!

When we were in Iceland a couple of hrs ago I purchased quite a bit of Lopi yarn. I knitted a shawl, using 3 different colors. It seemed a bit scratchy so before blocking it, I soaked it in warm water with lots of hair conditioner for several hrs, and then rinsed it. After blocking it was really soft - not as soft as acrylic but it really made a difference. Here are two photos of the two different shawls I knitted with the Lopi yarn - (Black, Gray, & Light Gray) and (Green, Brown, and Light almost white Gray).

I bought the Lopi in the same colors (black, grey and light gray) back in May during our travels in Iceland. Would you share the name of the pattern you used-it was just what I had in mind for this yarn! Also, thanks for the hint for softening...all the yarn in Iceland is scratchy! By the way, if people see low cost sweaters, be sure they are not knit in China with Icelandic wool as opposed to hand knit in Iceland. Apparently putting a lot of Icelandic women out of work in order to lower prices of the garments.

Flew Frontier for the first (and probably last) time last month. NJ to Nashville only delayed one hour. Nashville to NJ delayed four hours. Finally took off at 1:00AM. Pilot aborted landing first time cause he "couldn't lock onto runway". Screaming passengers. Got it right the second try. Guess someone turned the runway lights on. Down in Trenton at 3:45AM. Next day received an email with a $50 voucher. Non-transferable, so I can't even give it away. You get what you pay for, LOL!

I also want to thank everyone for furthering my knitting education. I have been knitting for many years and one of the things that keeps me motivated is the fact that it never grows stale. There is so much more to learn and that's what I love about the craft. I don't post often but I am here each morning and I delight in the knitting, crochet, chit-chat, pictures and humor. I pray for you when you need prayers and cheer your successes. I laugh with you when you add humorous posts and identify with your struggles. You enrich my days.

Bless you all. Happy Monday! (Yes, Mondays are great when you are retired. ;)[/quote]

Everything she said!!!!!!!!!

Leave a lot of time to explore the warehouse. Look for the Grandpa's Garage section. Bring list of yarns you need and quantities for patterns you have in your queue. Buy anything that speaks to you! Have fun.
