I have three of the old red and white floss totes (mine are also getting “tired”). When they stopped making the totes, I started using photo boxes. I have all the boxes listed as to the included DMC numbers in each, or which type of specialty thread inside. It works well for me.

Illinois has a unique program that can be used for private sales. Anyone interested in obtaining a firearm must apply for a FOID (Firearm Owner ID). A full background check is done on the individual and a card (with a recent photograph) is sent by the State Police. If that cardholder attempts to purchase a firearm from anyone, the seller simply calls the toll free number on the card and the status of the cardholder is then given with a reference number. The seller must provide transfer documentation with the purchasers FOID card ID number, the reference number and keep a copy of the transaction. Simple.

Even though Illinois has one of the strictest gun control laws in the USA, there were 73 homicides in Chicago this weekend. Maybe a more comprehensive program is needed. I am extremely concerned about the latest random mass shootings but wonder what is the solution. I agree we all need to let our leaders know our thoughts and concerns----but is that enough?

I have a Nancy's Knit Knacks Yardage Meter that I have been successfully using to measure the yardage of my handspun yarn for years. Like deenashoemaker, I am a spinner.

The fire we had was by someone carelessly flicking a cigarette out the window of a car accompanied by 30+ MPH north winds. I had just returned home the previous day from knee replacement surgery, my hubby had gone to Home Depot or Lowes without his cell phone, had taken my car. The police showed up at my door and said you have to evacuate NOW! Fortunately, our daughter was concerned and showed up right then. We grabbed a few things and left. She opened the gates so that the animals could escape if needed. Fortunately, the fire was contained about 1/4 mile from our house and the winds died down. Fire season is always a concern, especially after our wet winter. I pray that all take proactive measures and are safe.

Maybe we could compromise on November? We had to evacuate about 16 years ago with no warning. It really makes you take a hard look at what is really important in your life.

Can we just fast forward to October? Communities are having wildfire preparedness education days and evacuation drills.

I think this references the old coyote vs road runner cartoons.

If you want to add nylon to your yarn, add it while plying.

My hubby and I spent several days in Truckee two weeks ago. It was the most snow I’ve seen there in YEARS!! Great skiing, too.

I have found that combining alpaca fiber with about 10% fine wool (I use merino) gives and item enough memory that it retains its shape and doesn't "grow".
