I think I first heard of Knit Companion here, and downloaded it to my tablet. I pulled a few patterns from Ravelry back then, but being pretty busy the past few months, didn't open it again. Now I have a few patterns that I'd like to download to have handy for my next few projects. Gives me something to use to learn how to use KC and decide if I want to pay for the full version.

Picked up the tablet today to add those patterns and have no connection to Ravelry, and yes, I was logged in to it. I tried everything I could, often more than once, even uninstalling and re-installing KC as my tablet just went through a software upgrade. Found the Help pages, and found a question about losing the link to Dropbox and/or Ravelry.

Within the answer which only explains the type of pattern you can download, there is a link to Relink to Ravelry. That link just loops back to the original question about losing the link. Went through it a few times but of course got the same result. I tried to find info in the Ravelry KC group, but gave up as it isn't easy to find anything there. Very frustrating.

Does anyone know what might work, or what I might have done to break the link - I know the connection was there back when I first downloaded the KC app and I'm pretty sure I didn't have to do anything in particular for that to happen.

Otherwise, I will just delete the thing and use paper and pencil. Thanks to anyone who can help.

Sorry, I’ve never had that issue with knit companion. Sometimes it does tell me I need to log in to Ravelry. Do you have Dropbox? You might try downloading from Ravelry to Dropbox and then to knit companion. I generally do that because it’s easier for me to find the pattern to make it a project. I love knit companion

What kind of tablet do you have? iPad or android? Could make a difference. The idea to download to Dropbox first is a good one. I often transfer patterns manually from Dropbox to Knit Companion on my iPad. Had to fool around with the options in Dropbox to figure out how to link a pattern to KC, but finally made it work.

Hi,
I recently heard of KC as well. Downloaded it on my iPad and soon discovered that what I needed most, the scribble option, is only available once you subscribe which I ended up doing. I’m still learning but find it very useful so far.
I also wondered why I couldn’t see all my favorites from ravelry. I figured out that you can only see the patterns that are in your ravelry library. Perhaps that’s your issue?
So I end up sending the PDFs straight to KC now.
Hope this helps.
Ciao!

The crew from KnitCompanion regularly answer questions posed on the KnitCompanion Group on Ravelry:

I had looked there for an answer or a spot to put a question but I guess I was tired at the time. I did check again and found something about the
same issue, and the response had to do with changing settings on the router. I'm not going to mess with my router, can't afford to make a
mistake and lose the use of my computer.

At least I know that others have the same issue, but it would be good to have a specific answer as to why and how to fix.

I'm using android and will either try Dropbox or working with pdf's. I hear so many positive things about this app, that I'd like to give it a good try. Just wish it wasn't so time-consuming to figure out a simple task.

I use an android rather than i-pad, but the knitting function should be the same. I will subscribe as soon as I decide it is worth it to do so. I have patterns in the ravelry library, and even checked to see which ones were downloadable - some instructions on the ravelry site - and was logged
in, but still nothing. It's nice to hear that knitter's like this enough to be worth the time invested in figuring out to make things work. I have patience, up to a point :sm02:

I don't know whether it is the same problem, but when I could not find Ravelry on my Android tablet, some kind soul on KP told me to click on the PDF button: that makes "Ravelry" appear in the choices at the top of the screen. I'm still feeling my way around the app, but it begins to look very useful.

When you have Knit Companion open click on the Ravelry button.
It will ask you to sign in to Ravelry.
Then a page will pop up to ask you to authorize KC to access Ravelry. Once you click on that all your Ravelry library will be on KC.
Thanks, but my problem is that the ravelry button is nowhere to be found. Maybe I didn't explain that well. I read a tip in another post and I will try that. It seems that everyone has a positive attitude about this app, which is encouraging.

Someone else was having a problem connecting Ravelry to KC on their android tablet. Here is the thread that eventually led to her solving her problem. That's why I asked what kind of device you were on, as much of the advice those of us with iPads gave her was not relevent to her android tablet.

Edit: Just want to add this. I went into my Ravelry account "edit profile" and in there it tells me the apps that my Ravelry account is linked to (including Knit Companion). Might be worth checking.

Thank you!! That did it. Wonder why this simple answer isn't in the help section. Nowhere in any of the videos or FAQs that I checked was this
part of the setup information.

I use KC for everything, I have the Android version.....you have to make sure your internet is stable...go to pdf section and Ravelry should be a option...sometimes you have to authorise to link to Ravelry then your library should load
My internet can be a bit hit and miss I sometimes have to move around to find a more stable spot to get Ravelry to load

To note: the only patterns you can access through Ravelry are those which are Ravelry downloads.
Others - be they PDFs or not - cannot be viewed through the KC/Ravelry connection.
However, if you put them into Dropbox, you can then fetch them from Dropbox to your KC - after they’ve been into PDFs.

Please be aware that knitCompanion is NOT a database. It is tool (a really good one) for working a pattern. Whatever you do in kC is saved only on the device you are using. If your iPad (or whatever you are using) crashes, your patterns will be lost. Save your patterns in your Ravelry Library or Dropbox and import them to kC when you are going to create a project to work them. It is possible to save your kC projects to Dropbox, but I have never done it.
