I changed the belt on my machine, because it broke. In two places. On the right end, the belt was stuck in the wheel. I worked it loose, gently. And put the new belt in, but now the machine won't pull out the needles.

Any clue why?

Thank you.

Okay, now I know why, but I don't know how to fix it.

I spoke to Jerry at Needle-Tek. He fixed the machine in December. Since I got it back, the belt has broken three times. About every six weeks.

I called and told him this, and he was surprised that the belt broke in two places. Said that when the belt got stuck on the right wheel, it threw off the timing.

He thinks the owner knows how to fix this, but I verified with her that she doesn't.

I asked him to explain it to me, but he said it's complicated.

I'm not an idiot, and I know that if I could get some instruction, I can do it. I also know that the own says she can't, and just take it down, and put another in its place, and she will send that one back to Jerry when she returns from vacation.

I'd rather fix it. Does anyone know how to fix the timing on a knitting machine?

Adjusting the timing can be found in the 930 service manual.(Not the usual knitting machine manual.)
Be warned, this is a very technical book.

The service manual for 930 (close enough to 965) can be found for free download at http://machineknittingetc.com/brother-kh930-service-manual.html
Another source I found is a message on another board in July 2010 which discusses the importance of installing the belt correctly:

"The pattern belt has to be on the correct spikes of the wheel at the
pattern mechanism end, so when taking it apart move the belt so the
join is on the wheel and then mark the spot with Tipex or nail
varnish, then remove the old belt and replace the new one in the same
orientation and position.

The other wheel doesn't connect to anything so its position can be
disregarded.

If the belt is replaced wrongly the carriage runs along the bed just
before or after the wave of patterning information on the needles and
no pattern appears in the knitting.

I trust what Anne writes as she and her husband repair machines in England.

I FIXED IT!!!!

Thank you to all who helped! I really appreciate it.

I replaced the belt again. I found a kink in it, that I couldn't see when it was tight on the machine. I also took the belt out completely, instead of hooking it and sending it through. It took a lot of very careful work, and three hands, but I got it hooked on correctly, and without kinks, and the machine runs beautifully!

It's gonna be a golden day!
