Do knitting machines knit fisherman's rib? If so, can you tell me how much it would cost to have a length with 25 stitches across and about 6 feet in a worsted weight? I need some of these done and am willing to commission the work. Also what would be a source for someone to do that?

Yes they do Knit Fisherman`s Rib, but of course you have to have a Ribber in use to do it. I have 2 K.M`s that are capable of knitting this lovely stitch. I do not know about the amount of yarn you would need, this depends on how big your design is. The Passap, makes beautiful Fisherman`s Rib, it has a true Double Bed, (not an accessory like most makes). Silver Reed are the only good quality makers of K.M`s at present, but many M.K`s would like to have other good makes making them again. Good Luck, From, Susan, U.K.

Hi, Do you have a knitting machine? You probably need a bulky machine (and definitely a ribber) to knit fisherman's rib with worsted weight yarn. Have you contacted a machine knitting group in SC? The two that I know of are:

Each of these groups meets once a month, I believe.

Fisherman's rib just requires setting up a flat bed knitter and ribber. As long as the machine is set up corrctly and the sponge bars in the machines are in good shape, then this knits easily. I usually put the "fine knit bar" in to help the stitches knit off cleanly.

I use fisherman's rib and Half fisherman's rib, on both a standard machine and bulky to make very warm sweaters and flat thick scarves.

To commission someone to make these, you'd want to set a value per unit. If I'm using yarn that comes in a ball or skein, it takes me longer to cone up that yarn than it does to knit the piece.

I believe the original poster said "worsted weight", which is why I mentioned using a bulky machine.
