I'm starting this pattern:

And the gauge says:
Gauge: 24Mx38R = 10x10cm

I assume it means 24 stitches in stockinette, but can someone confirm that? Is that a typo or is "M" a thing? (R obviously means rows)

The Ravelry page lists the gauge as 24 stitches and 38 rows = 4 inches.

I see the description of the pattern says "Gauge=24 stitches and 38 rows = 4 inches " . I assume she means the M to signify Medium.

Translated from German (Maschen= stitches), so it's as listed in the pattern: 4 inches (10 cm) = 24 stitches, 38 rows

The M stands for Masche - stitches. She's probably german

'M' is a thing, but not in English. French, M = mailles/stitches. The French word for 'row' is 'rang', so the R = rangs/rows. For those reasons, I'm guessing it might have been translated from French. Immaterial though, since you already know what it means.

Ahh OK, now it really makes sense!
