I assume it means 24 stitches in stockinette, but can someone confirm that? Is that a typo or is "M" a thing? (R obviously means rows)
'M' is a thing, but not in English. French, M = mailles/stitches. The French word for 'row' is 'rang', so the R = rangs/rows. For those reasons, I'm guessing it might have been translated from French. Immaterial though, since you already know what it means.
