I would like to get a knitting machine at a reasonable price. I would like to make a variety of things with a variety of yarns. Is there a machine that will do that? I think I would like to make winter hats and gloves mostly. Thanks for any info.

The LK150 might suit your needs, but only if they are quite basic. No ribber, no card or no electronics, but an Intarsia carriage can be had.
It really depends how much you are prepared to pay and whether you want a new or second hand machine. I would not advise an LK150 if you want to become a little adventurous unless you are more than happy to do a lot of hand manipulation.
Silver Reed still make machines, including the LK150 as well as standard (4.5mm) machines, punchcards or electronic, with a ribber.
If you are prepared to go second hand, the sky is the limit - Japanese machines like Brother machines (4.5 and 9mm) or the French or Swiss machines Singer/Superba/Phildar/White or Passap machines (5mm mostly).
Good luck in your exploration and choice!

Best to buy through a dealer who actually uses, and repairs machines. They know what they are talking about. Often they offer a few free lessons, too. Disappointing to get a machine you can’t figure out, never know if it’s you or the machine that is the problem.

There are machine knitting clubs in Alberta, a good source of info and assistance. With the oil patch in decline, there will be many folk moving out, clearing out “stuff” for the move. Good time to buy.
