Circular knitting increases are usually started with a cast on of 6 stitches.
The increasing is done increasing the first round by increasing in every stitch, increasing on the next round every 2nd stitch, the next round every 3rd stitch, the next round the next round every 4th stitch. Continue the increases in this manner, having one more stitch between each increase. Do use a stitch marker to identify the beginning of each round. You do need to take into consideration how the increases will affect how your pattern turns out. Do count the increases as part of the pattern stitches.
