Hello
Hopefully someone here can help, help, help!!!!!

My KH 940 is mis patterning, sometimes only pulling out end needles for example on fair isle Stitchworld pattern # 100. The K Carriage then only knits the end needles from the left, but it patterns from the right. This is repeated a few times when it finally pulls needles into pattern and knits off both yarns for awhile in pattern.

I thoroughly dissasembled, cleaned, lubricated the entire machine, needles, needle bed, spongebar and carriage. Tried it with the enxtensions on and off. Did the same with Garter Carriage KG 88-89II, only to realize that I had to buy the two little black and white magnets. Did so.

The Garter Carriage now casts on from the right with memo button pushed and G light on the 940 panel. It will not knit patterns from the left. I select a pattern, turn the memo light off, and the G carriage light's not coming on. The GCarriage then pretends it's casting on and does so to about stitch 20 to the right of the zero. Then it goes onto pattern mode for ten stitches and repeats the pattern in that little 10 stitch circle .

I ran suggested tests and everything works properly; i.e.: The white sides of the magnets on GC are facing inside; when using K Carriage in KCII needles pull in D position in turned off position on both sides;
And needles finish in B position left and right in KCII with machine turned on and memo light on.

And it still mispatterning both with G carrriage and K Carriage.
Any advise, suggestions, tutorials are highly welcomed. Maybe someone is willing to help me via skype . please contact me viA TEXT 360.608.9027 or email petraknits@gmail.com . Thank you very much! pics of the 940 are attached

Do a test with knitting carraiage, a pattern easy to recognize, maybe alternating selected and non selected needles, then set carriage to KC and move in both directions, first time past turn mark. Do the right needles get selected? Then start from the other end, past turn mark, do the same thing. What happens? Could be one turn mark sensor does not work.

I cannot help with the G carriage, but the paragraph I pasted above from your note makes me think- could it be a part of the pattern? This happened to me and I thought it was miss patterning too. Then I double checked , and this was a part in the pattern where there was a plain stripe. I watched for that pattern section after that, and just pushed the 2 end needles in, so that I did not have a float across all the needles for those rows.

Another thought
When is the last time you took out all the needles for a good cleaning (even if they look clean)?
I have had machines with patterning issues and after checking everything else, a good needle cleaning solved everything. This is especially true if you use anything other than a quality gun oil to lube machine.

I did the test with the K Carriage. The first row worked in #340 and #345 pattern this time, but now it doesn't pattern from right to left. The third row is a complete mess. Also tried to delete old patterns, but now the check and CR keys don't respond at all on the selector panel. As mentioned before, the machine is clean and yesterday I switched out spongebars, altho still new, just to make sure it wasn't defective. Mys suspician is now the patterning selector. What can I do to fix that?

As for The Garter Carriage, it's still not responding from left to right, the G light doesn't come on in patterning from the left. The bought the two little sensor magnets the other day new on EBay for $ 35 ea.

Use pattern #30, just because it is easier to see what is wrong or right. Selector 1. Ready light must be on. Set carriage to KC I or II. No yarn. Move carriage past turn mark (left or right) and then move carriage across bed. Every second needle should be selected, in moving back again every second needle should be selected. Does this happen?
So far you talk about the patterns that came with the machine.
You can delete only patterns you put in yourself, from 901 on. the same for the check key, only works on your own patterns from 901 on.
You really describe at least 2 independent problems. Needle selection and input keys on knitting machine panel.
As for the garter carriage take the 2 new magnets in the back out, flip upside down and insert right one with left. See if the green g-light now is not responding from right to left.
How experienced are you with this machine?

Ran 885 and 889 tests and
As per you Mike, I just ran test 888. 888 is ok, so is 885 .
Test 889 passed 9.1 (with machine turned off). Failed 9.2 (machine turned on , KG set to KCIi) as follows: moved selected needles from E to B position, but patten selector programming panel buttons only work for CE, STEP, READY, PATTERN . no LED display for pattern number or row. No response to MEMO, CR, etc....

I bought this machine on ebay not too long ago, so I don't know what, if any patterns are progammed in by previous owners.
I will try your suggested test and report the results today or tomorrow morning. I highly appreciate your helping me like this

I turned it on one more time and ready and selector lights came on this time. In patt 30 KCI pulled neees into D across needle bed. On way back from r to l no patt/row display, ndls into B. L to r, noights on anywhere, beeping across the row, pull all ndls into D pos , despite patt 30 and carriage set at KCI.
Turned off, back on, pos light came on, 2 sec delay Ready light came on, nothing else.

With KC I and no power all needles need to go in D position. So it sounds maybe there is a power problem, maybe sometime no power (Wackelkontakt), but is sounds this is not all. Guess you have to study service manual more.

I will. I know what a wackel kontakt is, could mean it needs fuses xchanged. But I'll study up some more.
Thank you for all your help!
"wackelkontakt" loosely translated means "Wiggle Contact", which could possibly mean a badly fitting fuse, but generally means a bad wire that has over time, broken inside, that occasionally makes contact - or not!!

It could even be a bad power supply that is possibly "low" on one or more voltages. Sometimes achieving enough, but occasionally sinking below the minimum.

Certain Brother machines have an electronic mains filter, in the right hand end of the machine, where the 110/220VAC is plugged in (not all brother machines have this, some of the later ones have an external power supply that is very easily replaced....!)

The original Brother mains cable, is not only expensive to replace, but can also be a source of the "wackelkontakt"!! I hate them....

The filter components used were also of poor quality and I am afraid as they age, they deteriorate rather quickly. There are repair methods out on the IoT that you can search for.

But....If needed, I can help there, just ask. I wrote a blog here a few years ago on how to replace those components with better quality newer ones and at the same time replacing the old mains cable with a modern one including an earth connection. Which reduces the machines successability to static quite dramatically.

Mine was for the 910, but possibly your 940 machine is the same in this area, several models of Brother are...

I will of course, leave it entirely up to you to decide how you wish or need to progress.

Nor am I saying 100% that it is an electrical or electronic problem either, it might still be mechanical.....or like this problem:-
