I'm making our first great grandson a blanket; the colors are a variegated kiwi & royal blue.
For some odd reason I feel the need to use a bright yellow for Carson's name.
Yellow & blue make green...
The pattern is a garter stitch border & a "blank canvas" of knit or stockingnette.
How do I put Carson's name on here with purl stitches.
I could do duplicate stitches in knit but I really think the purls would really make it one of a kind;
Like he is.
Am I completely nutz?

Try on a sample square. You know how to do the duplicate knit. The purl would be the same, instead pass the upper part of the yarn in front of the loop instead of behind it. I am knitting date and initials in a baby blanket now. Oh I wish you had posted this question weeks ago. I think it will be easier and show to great advantage. Can't wait to try it on a hat for her. Please post a picture if you can or let us know how it works out.

You could also knit his name in the middle of the blanket using an intarsia pattern for the letters. And yes, I think doing them in a bright yellow purl would show up raised on a stockinette blanket. Not sure if you could do a purl duplicate stitch on stockinette and it look right, but, as said above: try a sample and see how you like it.

I knit garments for premies and make hearts, cats,dogs footballs, etc. by using a purl stitch instead of a stockinette and it shows the design very well. It can be done with the same color yarn or with a different color. Both show the design.

Y'all are awsome! I hate swatching....but y'all have convinced me to do it.

As for the purls....I'm about to decide to not do it.
The duplicate stitch, done as if a child had "written" it. Is there a font called Kid print? If not, then there should be!
Back to the blankie. I'll try to post a picture of the yarn.
It's Michael's caftsmart. Never Enough Royal blue/Kiwi green, 601 yards/11.9 oz., 550 m /340g

Not exactly sure where the letters would be placed, guess that's why I wanted to do the yellow letters later.
My tension isn't so good with intersia but duplicate stitch I've got down pat.
Thanks, y'all got being so supportive.
