Hi everyone, I appreciate the warm welcome I recieved. This seems to be such a friendly and helpful forum. I am still waiting for my 700 to arrive, anxiously I might add.
I also have another 700 coming that has no carriage or arm. Mostly it is just the bed but I figured for 10 bucks it was worth it for just the needles. If the Memo Matic is good and I need no parts I may try to restore this second one and resell it. I have looked on line, but am not finding the carriage (within a reasonable price), and the expensive one I found was the only one for the 700 I found.. I have found lace carriages, but as I have not delved into learning about that yet. i am avoiding spending the money until I know more about the machine and what is needed.
But I got to thinking that seeing as so many of the machines out there use the same parts I wondered if carriages from other machines would fit the 700. Anyone know about this? Suggestions?

Thanks
Jerry

For $10 I would keep it for the needles. If you found another carriage but not a 700 you would not be able to sell it as a 700.
The carriage is quite specific as it has the intarsia capability integrated into the carriage. Neither the earlier 360 nor the later 280 have this feature, and need an extra intarsia carriage for this technique.

This doesn't answer any of your questions, but I have a MemoMatic 700 and absolutely love it! Yes, I would keep the $10.00 one just for the needles. Trying to find all the missing parts might end up costing you more than what you could sell it for.

Other Singer/Studio/Silver Reed carriages will work on the 700 for basic knitting--stockinet, tuck, slip, fair isle. I have used my 328 carriage on my 700 with no problems at all. In fact, it's nice to have that as a back-up when something goes wrong with the 700 carriage (which has happened to me).
