How can I do a lifeline for my sock? I'm using a size 2 needle, I tried this morning to put in a lifeline, but it was just to hard to get the floss and needle into each stitch.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Lifeline for socks--evidently you are knitting in a lace or cable pattern and are concerned out ripping out errors. Some have suggested using dental floss because it is easier to work with--just an idea. Here are two tutorials the first is showing how to add a lifeline when using interchangeable cable needles, magic loop, really makes it very easy by threading your floss through the "key" hole on the metal tips:

The second is using straight needles and threading your lifeline through the live stitches with a darning needle, I would guess this is the most commonly used:

There are many more tutorials on Youtube and lion brand has their version by discussing what is a lifeline and how to use it:

Hope this helps!

$23 (set of 3) (Before the discounts)
Any knitter knows that unraveling a knitted project is never an easy task, and it often leads to dropped stitches and wasted time. Knit with the ADDI SOS Lifeline cords and you won't have to experience this ever again. The ADDI SOS cords allows for the effortless insertion of a lifeline as you knit! To open the lifeline eyelet, simply grasp the cord on each side of the eyelet and press together. Thread your lifeline yarn through the eyelet, and continue working as normal. When not in use, the eyelet collapses on itself and disappears into the cord

Each Lifeline/AddiSOS set comes with three cords - or pick the multi-length set with one of each.
Each set contains 3 cords:

24" (3) - $23.00
32" (3) - $23.00
40" (3) - $23.00
Multi Pack (24/32/40) - $23.00

Add a set of cord connectors to link the cables together!
$15 per set of two

Addi Click needles -http://addiclicks.com/-which has the lifeline slot
In addition to the standard Addi Click cords, special SOS Lifeline cords include a handy hidden eyelet that can be used to hold the end of your yarn to avoid dropped stitches. This eyelet is invisible until the knitter grasps the cord on each side of the eyelet and presses together causing it to appear to provide a handy yarn holder. These special SOS Lifeline cords are included standard for the Addi Click Long Lace Set or can be ordered seperately

I do it with #0. Just use a small sewing needle and some embroidery floss and thread as you go. If doing 2 At A Time you'll need 2 needles, and 2 pieces for floss.

I never use dental floss! To much of a chance it will damage my yarn. I slipped the stitches back down to the cable, but all I have is a thick plastic needle with a very large eye.

I was just hoping to figure out another way to thread a lifeline with the tools I have. Wonder if a floss threader would work? It would take longer to do it but it certainly should slip the floss into the stitches. Hum....gonna try it

Don't use dental floss. It cuts the yarn. Use crochet cotton in white or beige. I think it's number 10. I have lost the label on mine. Red or black or any strong color might bleed on your yarn unless you are knitting with red or black or any strong color.

Whenever I do lace shawls, which are nearly impossible to rip down without a life line, I just knit the lifeline for one row along with your normal working yarn--I've never threaded a needle and pulled it through, however, I will try that since it can leave a mark when you do pull the life line out because it is actually knitted in and can leave fibers, etc.

I too don't like dental floss for this purpose just threw it in to see more opinions on the use--didn't realized it could cut the yarns.
