I tend to agree with you, yet …
There are dozens of plant/flower patterns on Ravelry
As well as oodles of kits on that site you hate.
Could it be that there are folks who fail at maintaining live plants, but enjoy making/displaying/selling artificial ones?

I think they would buy the commercially made beautiful artificial ones out there some are very very good but not the knitted ones,.

There are lots of patterns on Ravelry that make me wonder why anyone would ever make them. I would not make a lot of the things that are sold as kits either. That doesn't change the fact that I think that most of them are dust catchers.

I can see it as a gift for a plant lover who can’t have real plants (immunocompromised for example). I would not make it for myself. But then other than as a playset for a small child I can’t see knitting or crocheting faux food either. Great thing about fiber crafts we can each make what meets our needs/wants.

Like okay, you wouldn't want it getting dusty, but do we have to act like it's poison?
It's acrylic- throw it in the washer when it's dusty 🤷🏼♀️ That's far easier than a real plant 😅

Laurpud, laughed out loud when I read your comment, thank you. Might not throw in the machine, but a quick soak in a bowl of water would probably work. Lego flower kits are very popular (mainly adults), and my first thought was how fun it would be to mix and match knit/crochet plants with the Lego sets. I can’t imagine it would collect much more dust than a gnome.
I try and keep my dust collectors at a minimum, but most are behind glass, so I don’t always notice how dusty they’ve become.
